Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport experiencing uptick in travelers By Rachel Hirschheimer | December 30, 2020 at 2:57 PM EST - Updated December 31 at 9:53 AM
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Despite COVID-19 cases increasing in the greater-Charlottesville area and across the country, many people are still hopping on flights and traveling.
“I’m visiting my daughter and her husband and our two grandkids,” Chris Tento said.
Tento traveled from Oregon to visit family in Charlottesville for the holidays.
“We just can’t live without them, we have to be there. It’s very important,” Tento said. “The last time, the plane was jammed coming up here. The airport in Charlotte was filled with people when we were there. There’s been a lot of people. It seems pretty busy.”
KIA stays mum on south runway’s CAT III B compliancy

Airport’s (
KIA) south
runway will be able to manage CAT III B operations enabling landing and takeoff in extremely low visibility conditions, as low as 50 metres by Dec 31.
The D-Day for making the RWY 09R/27l or the south runway CAT III B-compliant is December 31. However, it is unclear whether authorities would be following the plan.
Till Wednesday night, there was no update on whether the runway would become CAT III B-compliant, which would potentially reduce fog-related delays and flight cancellations at the airport.
